Of children and field trips
I was just browsing through some old pictures and found one my daughter took last spring when we went to see the Sandhill Cranes on the Platte River.

While I was in awe of the sight and sound of thousands of five foot birds descending on this shallow stretch of river to roost for the evening, my children were in awe of this bridge...and just poking sticks in the water.

For days, all of our discussions of the migration and references to the field trip ended by one of the kids saying,
Remember the bridge?
And the others answering,
Yeah. That was the coolest.
I don't know how much they learned about the Great Spring Migration, the Central Flyway or the morphology of Sandhill Cranes, but they certainly enjoyed the field trip.
